A hard worker, successful farmer, kind neighbor, a prominent man in town affairs, and a strict Presbyterian. He served his town in the legislature three years, was selectman in 1831, 1832, 1833, 1834, 1835, 1836, 1837, 1838, 1842, 1843, 1846 and 1863.
