Served two years in the Civil War in Company F, 17th Regiment Massachusetts Volunteers (Severance, B. Frank. Genealogy and biography of the descendants of Walter Stewart of Scotland and of John Stewart who came to America in 1718 and settled in Londonderry, N.H. Greenfield, Mass. : T. Morey & Son, 1905, pg. 69, 139-140).

Severance states he married first Sarah Jordan of Saco, Maine and second Mary E. Loud of Denmark, Maine. I can find no record of the first marriage, other than the fact that the record for his second marriage states that is indeed his second marriage. I can find no record identifying Sarah Jordan outside of Severance (page 139). The record for his marriage to Mary states that she is adopted, and her parents are William and Rebecca Gray. So it is possible that her birth surname was Loud, as stated in Severance.
