David was a wealthy manufacturer. Collinsville, Conn. was named after him (Ely Ancestry. NY : Calumet Press, 1902, pg. 310).

After living for some time in New York, David Collins finally removed to New Haven, Conn., and established his family and residence there, where his widow and children still reside. He died at his home on Hillhouse Avenue, August, 1861 (Ely Ancestry. NY : Calumet Press, 1902, pg. 310).
