James Arlington Patterson, 84, died June 22, 2012, in Gilbert. He was born Oct. 10, 1927, in St. Johns to Don and Alma Patterson.

James served his country in the U.S. Army in Korea. He loved his family and the outdoors. He graduated from UofA in 1952 in pharmacy; he worked as a pharmacist for 28 years in various places in Arizona and retired from that career in 1980. James was active in Alcoholics Anonymous. He served in two Bishoprics in Kingman and taught Seminary for many years for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. James loved to give service.

He is survived by his wife, Ruth Lenore Ollerton Patterson; son Patrick (Kristina) Patterson of Gilbert; daughter Sue Ann (Ron) Patterson-Phillips of Wasilla, Alaska; 12 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

James was preceded in death by his parents, sister Virginia Patterson, brothers Bob and Earl Patterson, and granddaughter Anna Patterson.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 30, at the Stake Center of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in St. Johns. Visitation will be held from 9:30-10:30 a.m. before the service. Interment will follow the service at the St. Johns Westside Cemetery.
