Obituary: Reading Eagle February 5, 2007:

Josephine (Misura) Valgus, 87, was pronounced dead on the night of Feb. 3, 2007, by Deputy Coroner Joel Bonilla as having died of natural causes in her southeast Reading home.
She was predeceased by her husband, John Valgus, on Aug. 7, 1986.

Also known as "Josie," she was born in Reading to the late Michael and Stella (Dwulit) Misura.

She had been employed in her lifetime at the former Oritsky’s Brothers Inc., Reading, and then co-owned and co-operated the former Valgus’s Cut-Rate at South Sixth and Bingaman Streets.

Josie was a founding member of the ladies auxiliary of the Ukrainian American Social Club, Reading, and was an avid bowler and local trophy winner.

She is survived by three daughters: Judy, wife of Jack Hitson, Brentwood, Tenn.; Linda Valgus, Cocoa, Fla.; and Eileen, wife of Gary Serke, Louisville, Ky.; and a daughter-in-law, Betty Valgus, Honeybrook.

Other survivors include three brothers: Andrew Misura, husband of Rose, North Point, Fla.; John Misura, Tacoma, Wash.; and Paul Misura, husband of Ann, Sunset Beach, Oahu, Hawaii; and five sisters: Mary, widow of Paul Duda, Allentown; Amelia, widow of William Slaby, Monacacy; Mildred, wife of Dr. Donald Loeper, Boyertown; Kasha Query, Stowe; and Hanya, wife of Bill Cosmi, New Jersey.

There are also 11 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Josie was also predeceased by her son, Michael J. Valgus, on Dec. 8, 1995; and a brother, Michael Misura.

Relatives and friends may call Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Wednesday from 8:15 to 9:15 a.m. in the Kopicki-Bradley Funeral Home Inc., 239 S. Ninth St., Reading. Josie was a lifelong parishioner of Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Ukrainian Catholic Church, 630 Laurel St., Reading. The Divine Liturgy will be celebrated there on Wednesday at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Uriy Markewych, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Nativity of BVM Ukrainian Catholic Church Cemetery, Route 724, Cumru Township.
