Funeral services for Fred B. Chapin, 96, who died Sunday, were held this afternoon at the home. Rev. Gale Bascomb of the Universalist Church officiated. Burial was in the Dolgeville cemetery.
He was born April 28, 1860 in the Town of Burlington Flats and attended the West Winfield Seminary and the Utica Business College. He was employed by Rowley & Horton in Utica and later conducted his own furniture store. He was first married to Nellie Greene who died in 1892. In 1895 he married Mettie Sliter Conklin in Richfield Springs. She died in 1953.
Mr. Chapin came to Dolgeville in 1893 and has resided here since. He was affiliated with the Daniel Green Company until he retired 15 years ago and served as bookkeeper in the payroll department. He received his 60-year palm from the Dolgeville Masonic Lodge three years ago. He was a charter member of the Utica Commercial Travelers and a charter and life member of the Dolgeville Rod and Gun Club.
He was a member of the Board of Education at one time and served 21 years as trustee of the Universalist Church. He was also a member of the Dolgeville Cemetery Association board and for a number of years served as village trustee and a member of the health board.
