Col., Mary Alice Jones, USAFR Ret., passed away October 19, 2009 after a long battle with cancer.
Mary was born December 1, 1941 in Beach Haven, NJ.
She and her family moved to Seward, Alaska in 1949 and then found their way to Texas in 1956.
Mary completed her nursing degree at Texas Christian University in 1964.
She started work as a nurse in Ft. Worth, and later moved to Parkland Hospital in Dallas, where she was Chief Surgical Nurse for many years.
She finished her career in nursing education and retired from Parkland in May 2001.
Mary proudly served as a flight rescue nurse in the Air Force Reserve for 32 years. She was on active duty during the Gulf War and retired from the Air Force in 2001 with the ranking of Colonel.
Mary was a devoted servant of her Lord Jesus Christ, serving Him as a member of St. Anne Episcopal Church in DeSoto, Texas. Her ministry to Christ included fifteen years of Kairos Prison Ministry, and also Cursillo and The Stephens Ministry. Mary's life was fulfilled by service to others, by growing beautiful roses and by caring for her dogs and cats; by traveling, skiing, and most recently learning to play golf.
Mary is survived by her husband of nine years, Bobby Jones; step daughter, Esther Grissom and husband Kenneth; step-sons, Carl Jones, Robert Jones and wife, Clarice; brothers, Walter Nicholas Clapp, John Muir Clapp and wife, Catharine Clapp; sister, Katharine Sapp Robinson and husband, Edward; nephews, Kevin Sapp, Russell Clapp and wife, Kimberly; nieces, Erin Sapp Duffey and husband, Gary, Rachel Linsley and Carla Wright.
Mary was preceded in death by her father, the Reverend L. Russell Clapp and her mother, Alice Muir Clapp.
Funeral services are 3:00 PM, Thursday, October 22, 2009 at St. Anne Episcopal Church, 1700 N. Westmoreland Rd., DeSoto, Texas.
Mary will be interred at St. Anne Episcopal Church.
