Goodman Graves was born on July 6, 1804 in Whately, Franklin Co, Massachusetts. His father John Graves was 24 and his mother Mehitable Colman Graves was 23. He married Sophia Flower on January 4, 1829 in Trumbull, Ohio. They had six known children in the 14 years between 1830 and 1843. He apparently passed away on January 14, 1871 in Iowa City, Iowa at the age of 66. The family was living in Des Moines, Iowa at the time, a distance of 115 miles away. It is not certain where he was buried, maybe someday someone will locate his actual grave for us. Maybe He was placed with his wife in Brethren Cemetery as that is the most likely location of his burial. It is known that he was a land 0wner of some 80 Acres in Jefferson Co, Iowa so No doubt he was buried either on his land 0r in a nearby cemetery. His brother Coleman Graves lived nearby according to the 1860 Census and also on the 1880 Census so the preponderance of evidence suggests Goodman was an established resident of this area- see#123934512 (The Photo is labeled Cincinnatus Graves -because it is part of the Family Photo Album of Cincinnatus & his family.) Goodman is this writers GG/grandfather. Another brother Major Dwight Graves was living in Louisiana - He died 1900 in Missouri. Quite a tragic story attached to that family as the Yellow Fever struck New 0rleans in 1867. His mother passed away in 1814 when Goodman was just 10 years of age.
