"State News Condensed," Isabella County Enterprise (Mount Pleasant, MI), March 26, 1886, p. 2, John W. Worden of Grand Rapids has been appointed by President Cleveland a cadet at large to the naval academy at Annapolis. He is 16 years old, a son of Col. Fred Worden of Grand Rapids, government land agent at Reed City, and a nephew of Admiral Worden, the distinguished naval hero of the late war.

"State News Condensed," Isabella County Enterprise (Mount Pleasant, MI), June 25, 1886, p. 2, John W. Worden of Grand Rapids, recently appointed to the naval academy,at Annapolis, died on the 15th inst. His death was caused by bleeding at the stomach, brought on by too violent physical exercise.
