Funeral services for Ralph Beardsley Johnson, 76, Provo, who died Thursday, June 9, at Veterans Hospital in Salt Lake City after a long illness were held Saturday at 2 p.m. in Berg Drawing Room Chapel in Provo.
Mr. Johnson was born July 8, 1900 in American Fork, a son of Henry C. and Barbara Rowley Johnson. He married Estella Y. King on April 28, 1944 in Provo.
Mr. Johnson was a mining engineer. He received his early education in American Fork, then received a B.S. degree from the University of Utah in mining engineering. Later he obtained a master's degree in mining engineering and diesel engineering from the University of Washington.
For two years, Mr. Johnson was an engineer in Mexico, then he operated a grain business in Wyoming and an automotive electric business in Provo. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1942, serving in the Pacific Theater.
Following his release from the Navy, he resumed his business in "Johnson Automotive Electric" on the Springville Road until his retirement in 1960.
He was a member of Alpha Beta Phi at the University of Utah.
Survivors include his widow; one stepson and five stepdaughters, Earl N. King, Bountiful; Mrs. CO. (Jean) Stephens and Mrs. Art (Shirley) Strasheim, both of Costa Mesa, Calif.; Mrs. Kendall (Loy) Jolley, Salem Hills; Mrs. Don (Verna) Caldwell, Taylorsville; Mrs. Ronald (Marcia) Nielsen, Provo; 26 grandchildren, and 17 greatgrandchildren.
Burial was in American Fork City Cemetery where full military rites were accorded by American Legion Dean Mendenhall Provo Post 13.
