Dorothy Diller Talley passed away on Tuesday, February 19, 2019, in Houston, Texas. She was promoted to be face to face with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. In life she was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and teacher and had a great sense of humor.
Dorothy was born in Peoria, Illinois, on November 3, 1923, to Dr. Harold F. Diller and Frieda Poehlmann Diller. Dorothy grew up in Peoria, studied piano, and graduated from Peoria High School. After attending Monticello College in Godfrey, Illinois, Dot went on to Northwestern University where she was a member of Zeta Tau Alpha, graduating in 1945 with a BA in Music and English Literature. While at Northwestern she met Navy Lieutenant Commander Robert (Bob) Talley and they married on September 8, 1945. During WWII she was a Navy wife at Glenview Naval Air Station, and Corpus Christi Naval Air Station. After the war, they first moved to Austin, Texas and then to Auburn, Alabama. Finally, in 1954 they moved to Houston where Dot continued raising their growing family. After Bob passed away, Dot started her teaching career in HISD in 1966. She did her best to bring history to life for her students at Gregory-Lincoln, retiring in 1988. Throughout her life, Dot was devoted to her Lord Jesus Christ through her worship and Bible study at Berachah Church. After retirement she continued enjoying her family and visiting American points of interest. Dot is survived by daughter, Sue and husband, Paul Losier; sons, William H. Talley and wife, Debra; Robert W. Talley and wife, Carol; Alexander C. Talley and wife, Denise; grandchildren, Paul Losier Jr., Kristi Talley Foster, Scott Talley, Jenna Vaughan Stephens, Alex Talley Jr., and Christine Talley Kelly; great-grandchildren, Braeden Losier, Blake Talley, Reese Talley, Allison Foster, Wren Stephens, Huckleberry Kelly, and Clementine Kelly. A funeral service will be held at The Settegast-Kopf Co.@ Sugar Creek, on Tuesday, February 26, 2019, at 11:00 AM, followed by a reception. Private committal will follow at Forest Park Lawndale mausoleum.
