Madison - Carl R. Franklin, 57, died Monday afternoon at a Skowhegan hospital after a long illness.

He was born July 10, 1922, in Garland, son of Leamon P. and Leone (Hayden) Franklin, attended Madison schools and graduated from Madison High in 1938.

He was a second lieutenant in the Army Air Corps, serving in India, and married Dorothy P. Ramsey, R.N., Aug. 22, 1945, at Marguerita, Assam, India.

Mr. Franklin was a machinist who retired in September 1978 due to ill health. He was employed at Madison Paper Co.

He was a member of the Indian Spring Odd Fellows Lodge, Somerset Canton, and Tardiff-Belanger American Legion Post of Madison.

Surviving besides his wife, of Madison, are his father, also of Madison; a son, Glen P. Franklin of Madison; a daughter, Mrs. Robert (Diane) Haulk of East Madison; a brother, Paul R. Franklin of Reading, Mass.; three sisters, Mrs. Orman (Eda) Fortier of Guilford, Mrs. Charles (Gloria) Carpenter of Norridgewock, and Mrs. Jacquelin McComb of Marblehead, Mass.; two grandchildren, several aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Edwards Funeral Home, 165 Main St., Madison, where friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. today.

Madison - Funeral services for Carl R. Franklin were held Wednesday morning at the Edwards Funeral Home with the Rev. Cecil Jones pastor of Federated Church of Norridgewock, officiating.
Bearers were Richard Hall, Darryl Hibbard, John Lawler, Chester Paine, Leo Redmond and Octave Fourcaudot. Tardiff-Belanger Post American Legion conducted military services.
Burial was in Forest Hill Cemetery, Madison.
