Dorothy P. Franklin

Madison - Dorothy Phyllis Franklin, 80, died Thursday, June 5, 2003, at Redington-Fairview General Hospital in Skowhegan with her family by her side.

She was born Aug. 31, 1922, in Schenectady, N.Y., the daughter of Henry T. and Phyllis M. (Weir) Ramsey. She graduated from Mont Pleasant High School in Schenectady with the class of 1940, and from Schenectady Hospital Association's Training School for Nurses in 1943.

Dorothy enlisted in the Army Nurse Corps in May of 1944 and served 13 months overseas in India. She was married April 5, 1945, in Marguerita, Assam, India, to Carl R. Franklin.

She had been employed 25 years as an R.N. in the offices of Drs. H. Carl Amerin, Andrew M. Szendey, and W. Edward Jordan. Dorothy was a member of the Madison Congregational Church, U.C.C., the Madison/Anson Senior Citizens and the Tardiff-Belanger Post #39 American Legion in Madison.

Dorothy was known locally for her talent as an artist. In addition to teaching art lessons to area school children in her home, she was an accomplished seamstress and enjoyed crocheting, knitting and tatting. She was also an avid reader.

Her husband, Carl R. Franklin, a sister, Audrey Malinka, and a brother, Harvey Ramsey, died previously.

She is survived by a daughter, a son, four grandchildren, a great-granddaughter, and a sister (names omitted for privacy). She will be sadly missed by all.

Visiting hours will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday, June 9, at Giberson Funeral Home, 40 Maple St. in Madison. A funeral service will be held 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 10, at the Madison Congregational Church, Main Street, Madison, with Rev. Nathan T. Richards officiating. Interment will be in Forest Hill Cemetery, Madison.
