Paul R. Franklin, 76, of Reading, died July 15, 2007, in Winchester Hospital, Winchester. He died peacefully surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Dexter, Maine, on Feb. 17, 1931, he was son of the late Leamon and Leone (Hayden) Franklin.
He was a 1949 graduate of Madison (Maine) High School and completed a post graduate year at Higgins Classical Institute. He was an Air Force veteran. He earned a bachelor's degree in business administration from the University of Maine at Orono in 1961. Mr. Franklin enjoyed a successful career as a management consultant and incorporated his own business, the Franklin Group of Reading.
Paul was known for his sharp wit and sense of humor, and for his life long passions for fly-fishing, sports, the number 5, sugar, a good wager, and the great outdoors.
What brought him the most joy was the life he built with his wife of 51 years, Doris (Ritchie) Franklin, and his two daughters and sons-in-law, four grandchildren.

Calling hours will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, July 20, at the Douglass, Edgerley and Bessom Funeral Home, 25 Sanborn St., Reading. A funeral memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, July 21, at Old South United Methodist Church, Reading. Burial will be private.
