Ephraim was the son of Jonathan Vaughn; and his father and mother were Edward Vaughn & Elizabeth Meeker.
They moved from Middleburgh, Schoharie, New York to Middleburg, Cuyahoga, Ohio in 1810 and were actually the 2nd family in town. They, in fact, named the town Middleburgh after the town they left. Jonathan located on the banks of the Rocky River where he erected a sawmill. Ephraim erected a gristmill further up the river from his father; he was also the first Justice of the Peace in Middleburgh. He had three brothers Richard, William H. & Calvin Riley Vaughn and at least two sisters who also lived in Middleburgh, OH.
Ephraim married Eunice Stewart in 1820. They had three sons, Joel A. & Silas Beckett Vaughn (named after his close friend and neighbor), and two daughters, Betsey & Hattie E. Vaughn and their youngest child, Samuel Stewart Vaughn who was a State Senator of Wisconsin. Betsey Vaughn was the grandmother of Howard R. Benner from Van Buren County, Michigan.
