Joel A. Vaughn was the oldest known child of Ephraim Vaughn & Eunice Stewart. He married Mary Polly Johnston in Cleveland, Cuyahoga, Ohio in 1844. They had eight children: Ephraim, Charles, Eunice, Joel, Mary, Alseba, James & Samuel.
Platted Vaughnsville, Keweenaw County, Michigan on his property. It is named for him to this day.
Wife Mary Polly (Johnston) Vaughn postdeceased Joel in 1863. She is likely also interred at Evergreen Cemetery. Following her death, their mining claim was purchased by the Aetna Mining Company with proceeds benefitting their children, now orphans.
