Died age 59 yrs. He served in the 27th Mass. throughout the Civil War. He was a 21 yr old farmer when he enlisted 30 Sept. 1861. Corporal. Wounded 2/8/62 Roanoke Island, NC. He was taken prisoner 16 May 1864 at the battle of Drewry's Bluff, NC and held at Andersonville until his release on 19 December 1864. Discharged 26 May 1865.
Son of Alfred Loomis and Rachel Isbell Loomis (1811-1871). They were married at Pownal, VT on Oct 14,1833.
