Jerome N. Henry, aged 65 years, died about 2 o'clock Wednesday morning at his home at 1426 Fillmore street after an illness from which he has been suffering since early last winter. Mr. Henry was one of the oldest business men in Topeka. He was engaged in the hardware business in North Topeka and his establishment was located at 813 North Kansas Avenue. He moved to Topeka 30 years ago from Saratoga, New York, and engaged in the hardware business in 1883 in North Topeka.
Mr. Henry was acknowledged to be an expert in plumbing and doing tin work on houses and in business buildings and has completed the work of this character in a large number of buildings outside the city from which he obtained a good revenue in addition to a healthy hardware business. He has been confined to his bed since July 5.
He was devoted to his business and did not devote much of his time to social life although he has a large number of friends and has a family which is popular among their acquaintances. He was a member of Gold Rule Lodge No. 90 A. F. and A. M. of North Topeka.
Mr. Henry is survived by his wife, one son, Stewart J. Henry and four daughters, Misses Ida, Anna and Bessie and Mrs. Judkins, wife of Ben Judkins, formerly a member of the police department and as deputy sheriff. In addition to that he is survived by his mother, one sister, Mrs. Josephine Henry, who lives northwest of the city and a brother, Allen Henry, who lives in New York (findagrave)
