Capt McKillip was a British officer killed in an accident near Fort Defiance around the time of the Battle of Fallen Timbers in the Ohio Valley. McKillip was part of a British Canadian contingent, led by his older brother, that supported the Western Confederacy against the Legion of the United States US Gen. "Mad" Anthony Wayne. After the American victory, troops burned the Indian villages nearby and destroyed their crops, using Fort Defiance as a base. The Indian defeat led to some of the tribes signing the Treaty of Greenville the following year, opening the Northwest Territory to American settlers.
