French Royalty. The daughter of Augustus III of Poland and Maria Josepha of Austria, she was the Dauphine of France from the age of fifteen through her marriage to Louis de France as his second wife in 1747, the son and heir of Louis XV. She was the mother of three kings of France, including Louis XVI, Louis XVIII, and Charles X, as well as Princess Marie Zephyrine, Louis Joseph (Duke of Burgundy), Princess Elisabeth, and Marie Clothilde, Queen of Sardinia. The sudden death of her husband on December 20, 1765 caused her to go into a great depression from which she never recovered. She died of tuberculosis at the age of 35, and was interred in the Cathedral of Saint-Étienne in Sens, except for her heart, which was interred at the Saint Denis Basilique.
