Florence H. Thiel was the daughter of August Henry Thiel and Harriet Comstock. She was born in Lyon County, Minnesota in 1908. In 1910 her family was living in Stanley, Lyon County, Minnesota. In 1920 the family was in Toqua, Big Stone County, Minnesota, and a brother Gaillord had joined the family. By 1930 another brother Warren had been born, and the family was living in Otrey, Big Stone County, Minnesota. Florence was 21 years od. Her mother was still living but not in the home.
Sometime between 1930 and 1940 the family relocated to Oregon. In 1940 Florence was in Pedee, Polk County, Oregon with father August H. Thiel and brother Warren A. Thiel. Florence's mother was still living, but was not included with the family in the 1940 census.
Census records seem to indicate that Florence's mother Harriet Comstock Thiel was a resident at the Willmar State Hospital, Willmar, Kandiyohi County, Minnesota until her death in 1967.
On October 22, 1941, at the age of 32, Florence married Harley Glenn Rhoades in Benton County, Oregon. The witnesses at that marriage were Florence's father A. H. Thiel and her brother Warren Thiel. Florence and Glenn had two sons, Terry and Gene.
Glenn Rhoades died in August 1964 at the age of 52. On December 12, 1967, Florence Rhoades married Archie J. Palmer in Polk County, Oregon. They were married almost 15 years when Florence died in October 1982 in Corvallis. She is buried at Oak Lawn Memorial Park next to Glen Rhoades. Archie died in 1991 and is buried with his first wife at the Dallas Cemetery in Pedee.
Florence's parents and both of her brothers are buried at Restlawn Memory Gardens, West Salem, Polk County.
