A funeral for former Dayton-area resident David A. Galinat of Longview, Wash., will be held at 3 p.m. Friday in Steele Chapel at Longview Memorial Park, Longview. Interment will follow in Longview Memorial Park. The Rev. Douglas Galinat will officiate.

Mr. Galinat died May 9, 2002, in his home. He was 79.

He was born March 22, 1923, in Grants Pass, the son of William Henry and Edna Jane (Van Goethem) Galinat. He graduated from Newberg High School in 1943. He served in the Army in World War II and the Korean War, as a sharpshooter in the 519th Anti-Aircraft Artillery. He was awarded the Purple Heart four times and was honorably discharged as a colonel in 1951. He then lived in the Dayton area until 1965.

He and Elizabeth Worden were married in 1952. The couple divorced in 1965.

He and Dianna Durham were married in 1970. They divorced in 1993.

Mr. Galinat loved hunting, fishing and the outdoors. He formerly belonged to the Eagles.

Survivors include three sons, Edwin Galinat of Dayton, Douglas Galinat of Accokeek, Md., and Ralph Galinat of Concord, Calif.; a daughter, Shanon Lea Galinat of Pittsburg, Calif.; a brother, Robert Galinat of Sheridan; three sisters, Margaret Dryden of Bend, Gloria DeLorm of Des Moines, Wash., and Betty Himmelman of Seattle; eight grandchildren and a great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Jack Galinat.
