Helen Shuman Heaton "FOUND HER LAUGHING PLACE"
Helen loved life and lived it to the fullest as long as her health allowed. She passed away Feb. 6, 2009 in one of her favorite places Kauai, Hawaii while visiting her youngest daughter Melanie and her family. She was born Dec. 2, 1924 in Stilson, Georgia to John Alvin Shuman and Cora Belle Davis. She was the ninth of 15 children. She was preceded in death by her first husband Wickman R. McCormack with whom she had three daughters: Linda Henderson (Ken), Kathy Thompson (Jeff) and Teresa Flegal (Doug). Also preceded in death by Adrian H. Heaton with whom she had Melanie Miner (Matt). She is survived by her four daughters, 21 'adoring' grandchildren and 34 great-grandchildren, three siblings: Dell Shuman, Nancy Sammons, and Jimmy Shuman. She loved tennis, golf, swimming and playing games. When she played, she played to win. She was a steadfast and faithful member of the LDS Church and served in many positions. Her passion was missionary work, serving on Temple Square, and with her husband Adrian at the Salt Lake Utah Mission and as directors of the Kirkland Ohio Historical Sites. Her greatest love and joy was being with her family, this love included extended family and friends. No one was a stranger to her. She was proud of her southern heritage and loved to rock and quote Uncle Remus by telling us to find our laughing place. We are all better for knowing her. A viewing will be held at the Millcreek 2nd Ward Chapel (4220 South 420 East Jeannine Ave.) Friday, Feb. 13 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Funeral Services will take place at the same chapel Saturday, Feb. 14 at 11:00 a.m. with a viewing from 9:30-10:45 a.m. prior to services. Interment will be at Larkin Sunset Gardens Cemetery (10600 South 1950 East) Sandy, Utah. Funeral Directors: Holladay Cottonwood Mortuary.
