Nadine Stradling Hunt returned to her Heavenly Father Jan. 21, 2014 at Summit Healthcare Medical Center with her family by her side. She was born Jan. 25, 1927 in St. Johns to James Leroy Stradling and Mary Lucinda (Lou to friends and family) Richey Stradling.
Nadine grew up in St. Johns after helping her family on the Chilcot Ranch near Concho. She graduated from St. Johns High School then stayed in town to help her family after the death of her father. She worked at the St. Johns Drug Store, as a nurse and receptionist at the hospital in St. Johns but spent many years at the Valley National Bank in St. Johns where she enjoyed helping others with their banking needs.
She loved to read including the classics, poetry and contemporaries. This trait was instilled into her children and grandchildren. After General Conference mother would pick a poem the Prophet had quoted and memorized it. She spoke of looking forward to being in the Great Libraries of Knowledge in Heaven as scriptures mentioned. She grew up learning all types of stitchery from her mother and grandmother. She taught all ages of children in Sunday School of the Church for 20-25 years, remembering this or that child as she watched them grow to be adults.
Nadine married Sanford Robert Hunt July 2, 1951 and later they were sealed in the Mesa Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. They spent many years at Hunt ranching and farming with their children and later moved back to St. Johns where Nadine continued to work at Valley Bank and Sanford for the State Highway.
She was preceded in death by her parents, James Leroy and Mary Lucinda Stradling, siblings: Frank Stradling, Opal Stradling Carnes, Doris Stradling and Earl Stradling, husband Sanford R Hunt and grandson Tyler Doubt.
She is survived by her children: Timothy (Jolene) of St. Johns, Sanford (Sheree) of Phoenix, John St. Johns and Edie (Dave) Doubt of St. Johns; 11 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren with another on the way.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, Feb. 1, at the downtown chapel of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in St. Johns with a viewing from 12-12:45 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 1 1p.m. with interment in the St. Johns Cemetery.
