Sanford Ash Sorensen
1935 - 2018

Early Life: Sanford was born October 27, 1935, to Ingbert Sorensen and Mary Ellen Ash, the seventh of their eight children. He lived with his family in Utah and Idaho before his family finally settled in Arizona, in hopes that the dry, warm weather would improve his poor health.
Life’s Work | Service | Interests: Sammy, as he was called by his family, was known as a happy, entertaining fellow with a good sense of humor. He was called by the Lord to serve a mission in Southern California for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He enjoyed California so much that after graduating from ASU with a bachelor’s degree in architecture, he wed his longtime friend and eternal companion, Claudie "Kay" Mangum, in December 1959 and returned to California to begin his career and start his family. Sanford and Kay happily welcomed six children into their family, three girls and three boys. Sandy, as he was known in business, got a job with the City of Pomona in the planning department. He worked hard and well, eventually becoming the Director of Community Development, where he served until he retired. He served in many callings as a member of the Church, working in the Young Men organization, a counselor to several bishops, and served as bishop to his beloved Pomona Ward. Sanford was an excellent husband and father. He loved his family and although he was busy with church work and city business, he and Kay made a point to take the family on memorable family vacations, have regular family dinners and established many fun traditions, especially at Christmas. Sanford had a talent for interior decorating, so their home was always beautiful, full of love and open to their children and grandchildren whom they love and visited frequently. After retiring from the City of Pomona, Sanford and Kay packed up and moved to Utah, where they enjoyed their retirement together and faced multiple health challenges. Sanford’s beloved Kay passed away nearly three years before he finally joined her. Sanford Ash Sorensen passed from this life August 12, 2018. He was 82.
Family Message: "His life was an example of patience, love, service, faith and perseverance. He will be greatly missed."
