From the Connecticut Probate Records: The Hartford James Steel died in either late Feb or early Mar 1712 and his Probate began in July 1712. His children have totally different names and his wife is Sarah.
THIS James lived in Wethersfield and died, according to his Inventory, May 15, 1713. The inventory was taken in July and Probate began shortly thereafter. Probate wasn't completed until the 1718s because of minor children.
Thus, the imposed inscription on the picture of the Wethersfield James Steel is wrong, regardless of what Hale's Cemetery Records or Tillotson's Wethersfield Inscriptions say.
