Rev. Jonathan Lee, youngest son of David Lee and Lydia Strong, b. July 10, 1718 per the printed vital records of Coventry, Conn. However, his gravestone says he was b. July 4, 1718. He d. Oct. 8, 1788 at Salisbury, Conn.
Rev. Jonathan Lee graduated 1742 from Yale College at New Haven, Conn. In 1744 he was installed as the first minister of the Salisbury, Conn. Cong. Church and served that church until his death. In addition, a 2-1/2 page sketch with family structure is contained in the 2nd printing of "John Lee of Farmington, Hartford County, Connecticut and His Descendants" [1897, p. 405-07.] The latter work, with supplement in 1900, is substantially more factually reliable than the Strong Gen. (1871) and other indirect works that parties on the internet have relied on in detailing the related family.
On Oct. 26, 1744 at the Lebanon, Conn. Cong. Chh. [Bailey, 2:42; Salis. VRs says Oct. 26, 1745], Jonathan m. 1) Elizabeth Metcalf, dau. of Rev. Joseph Metcalf (dec'd) and Abiel Adams, b. Mar. 6, 1716/17 of record at Falmouth, Mass. She d. of record Feb. 22, 1762 at Salisbury, Conn. [Salisbury VR.] Elizabeth's mother Abiel (Adams) Metcalf was the great granddau. of Gov. William Bradford of the 1620 Mayflower passage and his 2nd wife Alice Southworth [Abiel,4 Alice,3 (Rev. Wm. Adams), Maj. Wm.,2 Gov. Wm. Bradford,1]. Eight children of the family.
On Nov. 22, 1762 at the Woodbridge, Conn. 2nd Cong. Chh., Jonathan m. 2) the widow Love (Graham) Brinkerhoff (by her father Rev. John Graham of that church). She d. Dec. 22, 1820 at the Colebrook, Conn. home of her son, Rev. Chauncey Lee. Three children of the marriage.
The children of Rev. Jonathan Lee and first wife Elizabeth Metcalf b. of record at Salisbury, Conn. are:
• i. Dr. Jonathan Lee, b. Oct. 26, 1745, d. Sept. 1, 1814; m. Mabel Little. Seven children of the family.
• ii. Elizabeth Lee, b. Sept. 4, 1747, d. Mar. 31, 1830 at Pittsfield, Mass.; m. Feb. 18, 1768 at Salisbury, Conn, Rev. Thomas Allen, 1st pastor of the Pittsfield, Mass. Cong. Chh. He d. Feb. 11, 1810 at Pittsfield. Twelve children of the family. [Note: their son Rev. William Allen, D.D., was Pres. of Bowdoin College, ME; was author-publisher of "Allen's Biographical Dict." and wrote a genealogical introduction to Vol. I of Robert Ashton's "The Works of John Robinson" (1851).]
• iii. Capt. Samuel Lee, Esq., b. Sept. 27, 1749, d. Sept. 3, 1829 at Salisbury, Mass.; m. 1) Hannah Moore (not Morse as stated in the Strong Gen.), m. 2) Elizabeth Brown. Nine children of the family.
