Redfield - Richard C. Wolner, 78, of Redfield, S.D., died Wednesday, Feb. 8, 2006, at Community Memorial Hospital in Redfield after a five-year struggle with cancer.
His memorial service will be Friday, Feb. 17, 2006, at 2 p.m. at Thelen Funeral Home in Redfield. Reverend Stephen Perry will officiate.
Richard Clayton Wolner was born March 17, 1927, near Frankfort, S.D., to Henry and Rena (Gavette) Wolner. He attended rural school and Frankfort High School. He married Mavis Johnson in 1947. They moved to Kansas, where Richard drove a gasoline transport and held various jobs. Returning to South Dakota, he farmed with his father southeast of Frankfort for a number of years. In 1967, he moved his family to Oregon where he owned a household appliance, furniture repair and sales business. He sold his business in 1985 and moved to Casa Grande, Ariz., where he continued working with appliances. Richard and Mavis moved to The Village in Redfield in 2005.
Richard is survived by his wife, Mavis Wolner of Redfield, S.D.; three sons: Douglas R. Wolner of Picocho, Ariz., Gary E. (Kathleen) Wolner of Arizona City, Ariz., and Randell D. Wolner of Salem, Ore.; and three daughters: Dixee M. Wolner of McMinnville, Ore., Virginia D. (Peter) Scheiber of Prescott Valley, Ariz., and Claudia M. (Luke) Brown of Carlton, Ore. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and four brothers: Russel, Merlyn, Wesley and Marvin.
