Violet R. Johnson
1931 - 2014

Violet Johnson passed peacefully from us on September 14, 2014. Vi was born on May 31, 1931 on a farm in South Dakota to Susie and Elias Kliensasser. She fondly recalled riding a horse to a one-room school and doing farm chores. After high school Vi married Robert Johnson in Redfield South Dakota. Robert died in 1972.

The couple had a son and lived primarily in Minnesota. In 1965 they moved to Oregon where Vi worked as a secretary at the UofO while Robert was a professor at LCC. She later worked at KEZI and as a realtor. Vi was an instructor at the LCC downtown center and a financial aid advisor with the UofO. Vi graduated from the University of Oregon in 1990.

Vi was an active environmentalist. She loved the mountains and rivers of Oregon and enjoyed the Oregon coast. In addition to being an avid hiker, Vi enjoyed raft trips and skiing. Vi did her best to share the outdoors and pass on that enjoyment to her grandchildren who she took on special outdoor and road trips. Her love of the natural environment will live on with those who knew her.

In her later years Vi was active with the Masonic Cemetery Association. Vi gave of herself in service to the community and was always thoughtful of others. She is survived by her son Jeff Johnson of Eugene, grandchildren Katherine & Matthew, great-granddaughter Madison, sisters Rosella and Martha Kliensasser, and faithful friends whose assistance she truly appreciated.
