Donald "Don" Lawrence Carpenter, 71, of Glen Daniel, passed away peacefully and in the company of his loving family after a courageous battle with cancer.
Born March 16, 1940, in Sayre, Pa., he was the son of the late Charles Milo Carpenter and the late Helen Louise Hibbard Carpenter. He was preceded in death by a brother, Duane Carpenter.
Well known for his hearty laughter, he was a graduate of Appalachian Bible College and enjoyed reading his Bible, gardening and playing golf. He loved listening to Bluegrass music and spending time with his grandchildren. Don served his country for 22 years in the US Navy as a Russian linguist, and also was retired from the US Postal Service.
Left to cherish his memory are his beloved wife of 49 years, Thelma Young Carpenter; his son, Ken Carpenter and wife, Joyce Lewis Carpenter of Lester; his daughter, Brynn Karen Carpenter Paillet and husband, Daniel of Wichita, Kan.; his son, Kevin Carpenter and wife, Kim Ward Carpenter, of Glen Daniel; one sister, Joyce Marsh of Adamstown, Md. Also, his grandchildren, Ryan Green, Mike, Zach, Daniel, Logan, Luke and Sierra Carpenter, who all affectionately called him "Pa".
Services will be at 1 p.m. on Friday, November 18th, at Melton Mortuary with Andy Davis and Gene Miller officiating. Burial will follow in the Young Family Cemetery on Pine Branch Rd, with family serving as pallbearers.
Friends may call Thursday from 6 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home, and on Friday one hour prior to the services.
