Kendall Thomas July 31,2002: Kendall Thomas, 94, a former resident of Terrace Street, Carbondale, died Wednesday at the Forest City Nursing Center. His wife, the former Frances D burn ick, died May 31, 1989. Born Dec. 24, 1907, in Vandling, son of the late Azeriah and Unice Jones Thomas, he was proprietor of Thomas Service Station on Belmont Street. Carbondale, until 1970. He then worked until retirement as custodian of the First Presbyterian Church, Carbondale, where he was also a member and former elder. He was a lifetime member of the Carbondale Lodge F&AM. He was an animal lover and was always willing to help neighbors and friends. Surviving are two sons, John R., Eynon; and William D., Oswego, N.Y.; five grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Marion Crocker, Nov. 27, 1982; two sisters, Ruth Lane and Viola Acker, and a brother, William. The funeral will be Saturday with services at 10 a.m. in the First Presbyterian Church, Salem Avenue and Church Street, Carbondale, by the Rev. William L. Blackie HI, pastor. Interment, Rounds Cemetery, Union Dale. Friends may call today, 5 to 8 p.m., at the Oliver R. Shifler Funeral Home, 94 N. Main SL, Carbondale.
