Nona Mae New, 97, of Independence, passed away Sunday, August 6, 2000, at Waddell Nursing Home, Galax. Born May 15, 1903, in Alleghany County, N.C., to James Vance and Mary Alberta Pugh Dancy. She was preceded in death by her two husbands, W. E. Webb and Cleve New.
She is survived by five nieces, Nona Mitchell, Massillon, Ohio, Mary Metscher, Euclid, Ohio, Virginia Thomas, Roanoke, Carolyn Waddell, Virginia Beach, and Elizabeth Hester, Roanoke.
Funeral service 2 p.m. Wednesday, August 9, 2000, in Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home Chapel, Independence, with the Rev. Kathie Wilson-Parker officiating, and interment in Fries Cemetery, Fries. Flowers will be appreciated or memorial contributions may be made to Independence Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 607, Independence, Va. Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home, Independence, in charge of arrangements.
