Ernest Claude Jarrett, 95, of Bassett, Va., moved to his heavenly home on Wednesday, March 21, 2018. He was born in Henry County, Va. on May 27, 1922 to the late Ernest Clay Jarrett and the late Mary Ella Lackey Jarrett. In addition to his parents; he is also preceded in death by his loving wife of 69 years, Virginia H. Jarrett.
Claude is survived by a son, Michael Jarrett of Virginia Beach; a daughter, Connie Jarrett Gilley of Collinsvile; brother Ralph Jarrett of N.C.; five grandchildren, Angela Myers of Collinsville,Va., Amy Jarrett of Roanoke, Va., David Gilley of Bassett, Va., Heather Bubb and Amanda Jarrett of Virginia Beach, Va.; six great-grandchildren; a great great- grandson; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Claude was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and brother. He loved the Lord and was a faithful member of Fort Trial Baptist Church. He was adventurous and lived life to the fullest. He and Virginia loved to travel and were blessed to have visited all 48 continental states, Canada and Mexico. He was a champion bowler and an avid sportsman.
He was an exceptionally hard worker. He was a fine craftsman and devoted over 30 years to Bassett Chair Plant, until they closed the doors. But even that didn't stop him. He went to work at Masterbrand Cabinets where in his honor a star was placed in the floor marking the place where he stood. He always took pride in his work and especially enjoyed leading the morning exercise group at Masterbrand at the spry age of 89.
He finished well. He fought a good fight, he finished the course and he kept the faith.
The family will receive friends Thursday, March 22, 2018 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Fort Trial Baptist Church in Stanleytown, Va.. The funeral service will be conducted on Friday, March 23, 2018 at 2p.m. at Fort Trial Baptist Church with Dr. Joey McNeill and the Rev. Tony Beach officiating. Burial will follow in Roselawn Burial Park in Martinsville, Va.
