Mr. Thurman Ray Compton, age 71, of Pilgrims Knob, VA passed away at his home Friday, November 22, 2019 with his family by his side. Born November 7, 1948 on Compton Mountain, he was the son of the late Elmer and Vicie Church Compton.

Mr. Compton was a member of the Flatwoods Church of Christ. He was a disabled employee of Jewell Smokeless Coal Company. He was a proud grandfather and he enjoyed watching dirt racing and Nascar.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Johnny and Clyde Compton; father-in-law, Carl Keene and mother-in-law, Geneva Keene.

Mr. Compton is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Linda Keene Compton; one son, David Scott Compton and wife Whitney of Kingsport, TN; one daughter, Melena Compton Mitchell and husband Andy of Youngstown, OH; six grandchildren, Chasity Mitchell, Joshua Mitchell, Elizabeth Mitchell, Timothy Mitchell, Jackson Compton, and Delaney Compton; two brothers, Elmer Junior Compton of Swords Creek, VA and Wayne Compton and wife Paula of Pilgrims Knob, VA; one sister, Ann Lester and husband Floyd of Claypool Hill, VA; several nieces and nephews; special caregivers, Betty Hagerman, Betty Owens, and Pat Horn.

The family will receive friends from 6 – 9 p.m. Monday, November 25th at Singleton Funeral Service in Cedar Bluff, VA.

Funeral Services will be conducted at 12 noon Tuesday at the Singleton Funeral Service Chapel with Mr. Andrew Mitchell, Mr. Arthur Mullins, and Mr. Steve White officiating. Burial will follow in Greenhills Memory Gardens at Claypool Hill, VA. Pallbearers will be nephews. Honorary Pallbearers will be the men of the Flatwoods Church of Christ. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Multiple Sclerosis Foundation, National Headquarters, 6520 N. Andrews Ave, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33309-2132 or the Alzheimer’s Association, 225 N.
