Herman Junior “Jack” Matney, age 96, of Whitewood, VA passed away Saturday, October 26, 2019 at Pikeville Medical Center in Pikeville, KY. He was born June 18, 1923 in WV and was the son of the late Dave and Cora Perkins Matney. He was a retired coal miner, a member of the UMWA, and a member of the Masonic Lodge # 318 of Richlands for 68 years.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Ellen Fay Ratliff Matney; one son, Troy Keith Matney and his wife, Tammy Mullins Matney; brothers, Glenn, Emory, Roy, Ritter, Elwood, Ellis, Luther, and Gallie Matney; sisters, Pearl Matney Sanson and Eva Matney Akers; step-brother, Eldon Keen.

Jack is survived by his children, Clayton Matney and wife Peggy of Poca, WV, Sharon Kelly and husband Ron of Whitewood, VA, and Marie Collins and husband Lonnie of Swartz Creek, MI; half-brother, David Matney and wife Jessie of Hillsville, VA; half-sister, Nell Matney Keen of Wardell, VA; eight grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, and seven great-great grandchildren also survive.

The family will receive friends from 6-9 p.m. Tuesday, October 29, 2019 at Singleton Funeral Service in Cedar Bluff, VA.

Funeral Services will be conducted at 12 p.m. Wednesday at the Singleton Funeral Service Chapel with Pastor Troy Lester officiating. Burial will follow in Greenhills Memory Gardens Cemetery at Claypool Hill, VA. Pallbearers will be family and friends. Casey-Short VFW Post 9640 will conduct Military Graveside Rites.
