Her mother Grace's obituary states she is survived by, aomng other, her daughter Peggy Ann Carter. I cannot find a marriage record nor the name of this Carter husband. Likewise Peggy's obituary does not mention any husband with the surname Carter, although the obituary does have her name as Peggy Ann Whitt Carter.

Obituary:

It is with a heavy heart that we announce that our beautiful sister, Mother, aunt, cousin and friend, Peggy Ann Whitt Carter, passed at the age of 74 from complications of bulbar ALS disease on January 25th, 2021, at the Rehab Center of Bristol. Born on July 17th, 1946 in Pilgrims Knob, VA to the proud parents of Grace Clifton Whitt and Garlin Garfield Whitt. She joined her sisters Patsy Carol and Janet Carlene and a few years later their long waited-for brother, Ronald Garlin arrived in 1949. With Grace being one of ten children and Garlin one of five Peggy was blessed to be raised with an extended loving family of aunts, uncles, and cousins.
After graduating from Hammond High School in Alexandria, VA, she moved to Richmond, VA where she met and married Terry Berthold. They later moved to Danville, IL, where their beloved son Todd was born. In 1976 Peggy and Todd relocated to Bristol, VA where she was employed as a bookkeeper for the Country Club of Bristol for over 30 years. In 1998 she met Jeff McElyea who was her longtime partner and helped comfort her through her final days.
She was always the life of the party at many family gatherings. She loved to travel to Alexandria, San Francisco, Las Vegas, and greatly enjoyed the beach. Peggy was preceded in death by her Father and Mother, and her sister Patsy. Those left to cherish her memory are her son, Todd, and daughter-in-law, Jill of Bristol, her sister Janet Carlene Lotto and brother-in-law, Ray of San Francisco, CA, brother Ronald Whitt of Bristol; her Aunt Jean Melone and daughter Pam of Richmond and partner Jeff McElyea. Nieces and nephews, Janet Ann Buckles Shortt (Barney) and son, Sonya Buckles Keene and sons, Robert Allen Buckles (Amanda), Gerald Whitt (Michael Pruitt), Chris Whitt (Stephanie) and children, and many wonderful cousins and friends
The entire family has deep gratitude for all of the nurses and doctors who lovingly took care of Peggy throughout her illness, especially Dr. John Mann and Mike Baines.
Due to Covid-19 a Celebration of Life will held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers a donation can be made to the ALS Foundation for Life in Peggy's honor.
