Sir Thomas Leigh. Knt. LORD MAYOR of the City of LONDON in the year 1558. [when Queen Elizabeth came the the Throne.] and LADY ALICE LEIGH his Relict founded an ALMS HOUSE in this Town for 5 poor Men and 5 poor Women to be paid yearly out of MILBOURN-GRANGE the Church Wardens for the time being [whilst the Hamlets of Stoneleigh or Stareton] to be Wardens of the said Alms-house. and to receive yearly 6 8 for their care. The said LADY ALICE LEIGH gave likewise to yearly towards the repairs of this Church.
ALICE DUCHESS DUDLEY gave L20 per annum for ever to the VICAR of STONELEIGH, and Plate for the Communion, and a large annual allowance to the POOR of STONELEIGH for ever
