Son of Secy William Claibrne and Elizabeth Butler.
Thomas married Sarah Fenn and had one son, Thomas who married Anne Fox. He inherited Sweet Hall estate in King William County from his father and raised a large family there.

Thomas died of an Indian arrow wound and was buried at Romanoke, later removed to Hollywood Cemetery by the Claiborne family. Other Claiborne family members are buried in the plot with him.
