"It was with keen regret that Richfield Springs learned, Sunday, of the death of Joseph Darling Ibbotson, who was one of its esteemed citizens and always interested in its welfare. Mr. Ibbotson's death occurred Saturday at Elmwood Hall, Saratoga Springs, where he went two weeks ago for his health. Mr. Ibbotson was about seventy years old and came to Richfield Springs about forty years ago from Binghamton, where he spent his young manhood. He entered into business at Richfield Springs, at first with the Delaware, Lackawanna and Western company in the freight office. Later he obtained entire control of the coal business and had conducted that since ... In politics Mr. Ibbotson was a Republican, but he never aspired to office and his political interests were of the quiet sort. He leaves two sons, Prof. J. D. Ibbotson of Hamilton College, Clinton, and Edward D. Ibbotson of Utica. There are also five grandchildren. The funeral was held from the Presbyterian church, Tuesday afternoon, at 3 o'clock.---Our Richfield Springs Reporter." ["The Otsego Farmer & Republican" (Cooperstown, NY)]
