Like his father, he first appears in Weymouth, Norfolk, MA. In 1644, he moved to Guilford, New Haven, CT. He was chosen to be a representative at Hartford in 1647. He was a tanner by profession, a farmer in Hammonassett (now known as "Madison"), New Haven, CT where he was granted land in 1653/1654, and in 1663 was chosen to be town constable of Guilford. In 1668, he moved to Killingworth, Middlesex, CT.
