Permelia West was born in 1778, in Tolland, Connecticut. She is the eighth child of Abner West & Mary Hatch. Her siblings are; Abigail West, 1761; William West, 1762; Abner West JR, 1765; Mary West, 1767; Submit West, 1769; Elizabeth West, 1774; Susannah West, 1777; Sarah West, 1780; and Elizabeth West, 1782. (The two Elizabeths may have been the same, or probably the first died).
Curtis Stoddard was born 15 October, 1771, in Lennox, Massachusetts. He is the sixth child of Anthony Stoddard (III) & Phebe Reade. His siblings are; Amos Stoddard, 1762 – 1813; Phebe Stoddard, 1764 – 1800; Philo Stoddard, 1765 – 1848; Lavinia Stoddard, 1768 – 1802; Anthony Stoddard (IV), born 1769; Simeon Curtis Stoddard 1776 – 1848; Lucy Stoddard, 1782 – 1840; and Eliakim Stoddard, 1784 – 1815.
Curtis and Permelia met and were married in New York State, in 1803. Six children were born to them; Elsa, Amos, Benjamin Franklin, Curtis, Mary Ann and Charles.
Curtis and Permelia lived in Ohio, New York and Illinois.
Curtis and Permelia join the LDS Church with some of their children, in Knoxville, Illinois after being given a Book of Mormon to read and then taught by the Elders.
Curtis died 20 August, 1840 in Knoxville, Illinois, and is buried there.
Permila moved with her sons, Amos, Benjamin and Charles and their families to Nauvoo. Living there until 1848, when they left because of the mobs. The family remembers leaving with their home, barn and fields burning.
Permelia died in Council Bluffs, Iowa while waiting to head west to Zion, (Utah). She will be eternally numbered among the valiant saints who gave their all to the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
