Dewey Lee Strickland, 83, died Sunday, May 16, 2010, in Eagar. He was born April 20, 1927 in Sulphur Springs, Texas to Marion Thomas Strickland and Ora Lee Vickers Strickland.
Dewey served in the United States Marines from 1944 - 1945. He served in World War II as a Marine. Dewey worked as a logger/truck driver for 40 years. He received the nickname of "Rabbit" which most of the older folks knew him by. He loved fishing, the outdoors and just the beauty of the White Mountains.
He is survived by his wife Marjorie Strickland; sons Jerry Strickland of Salt Lake City; Thomas Strickland of Springerville; Richard Strickland of Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.; Dewey K. Strickland of Gentry, Ark.; Gary Strickland of Farmington, N.M.; stepsons Bill Lund and Richard D. Lund; sisters Dorothy Strickland, Frances Johnston and Ruby Kyle, nine grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and one sister.
A viewing will be held Friday, May 21, at Burnham Mortuary from 6-8 p.m. Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 22, at 10 a.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Stake Center with visitation one hour prior.
Interment will follow the services at the Eagar Cemetery.
