Rev. Joseph Metcalf, s. of Dea. Jonathan Metcalf and Hannah Kenrick, b. Apr. 11, 1682 at Dedham, Mass. A graduate of Harvard College at Cambridge, Mass. in 1703, he d. Dec. 24, 1723 at Falmouth, Mass. after 16 years as the first pastor of the Falmouth Congregational Church.
By an intent to marry pub. June 7, 1737,9 (apparently an error - wife's page says 9/3/1707 EAD) Joseph m. Abiel Adams, dau. of Rev. William Adams (2nd pastor of the Dedham Cong. Chh.) and his 2nd wife Alice Bradford, b. Dec. 15, 1685 at Dedham, Mass. Abiel was the maternal granddaughter of Maj. William Bradford and his 1st wife Alice Richards, the former the eldest son of Gov. William Bradford of the 1620 Mayflower passage and Plymouth Colony by his 2nd wife, Alice Carpenter.
Following Rev. Metcalf's death, Abiel m. 2) as his 2nd wife, Rev. Isaac Chauncey, who d. May 2, 1745 at Hadley, Mass. Abiel d. July 30, 1758 at Mansfield, Conn.
