5th of Glenbuckie

Duncan was the next in succession of Glenbucky following the sale of right and title to him by his oldest brother, Patrick Stewart. As Duncan's son, John Dubh Beag, was later recorded as being "of Ledcreich" when he helped clear the MacGregors from Glenfinglas, it seems more likely that Patrick and Duncan simply exchanged lands at some point. In which case Patrick should probably be numbered among the lairds of Glenbuckie, but he is not traditionally so-accounted. SOS accounts Duncan as "9th of Glenbuckie" -- we have not been able to reconcile with SOS's accounting. The closest we can come is possibly "7th", but we continue with the traditional accounting of Duncan as 5th of Glenbuckie.

The Ardvorlich History records that before 1580 Duncan Stewart, son of Black Alexander of Glenbuckie, was appointed as Deputy Royal Forrester in Glenfinglas. The Royal Forrester at the time was John Stewart, Constable of Doune.

Duncan was one of the several Glenbuckie Stewarts who was cited in the 1586 bond of manrent to Sir Duncan Campbell for the murder of John Comrie. (see web site)
