Thomas de Chauncy, as heir of his father Robert de Chauncy, was said to have been age 23 in 1272, in the 56th year of the reign of King Henry III, which would suggest he was born in the year 1249. However, his father Robert died prior to 1246, in the 30th year of the reign of King Henry III, so that Thomas may have been age 28 rather than age 23 in 1272, due to a transcription error, and so his estimated birth year is 1244.
He married Isabel, daughter and sole heir of Philip de Chauncy, lord of the manor of Willoughton in Lincolnshire, and through Isabel became possessed of a portion of the Willington estate in addition to the barony of Skirpenbeck.
Thomas de Chauncy died on April 8, 1309 in the 2nd year of the reign of King Edward II. Though no marker survives, he was likely buried in the churchyard of St. Mary parish in Skirpenbeck.
