Chauncy de Chauncy came from the village of Canchy near Amiens in the Somme Department of Picardie, France to fight with William the Conqueror in the Norman Conquest of 1066.
William de Chauncy, eldest son of Chauncy de Chauncy, purchased the manor of Skirpenbeck from a Norman named Odo Balistarius, who held it by gift of William the Conqueror. Prior to this purchase, the residence of the de Chauncy family, including another son named Auschar de Chauncy who flourished in England during the reign of King Henry I, is not known.
