Sir Roger Bigod, son of Sir John Bigod and wife Isabel, was born in Stockton, Norfolk, England in about 1302 at about the time that a manor in Settrington, North Yorkshire, England was conveyed to Sir John Bigod by his cousin Roger Bigod, 7th Earl of Norfolk in 1302.
Sir Roger Bigod married Joan and they had at least three children: Sir John, Joan and Isabel. Sir Roger Bigod received in 1333, as heir of his older brother Sir John Bigod, the manor at Settrington and there he and wife Joan lived out their lives and Sir Roger died on April 17, 1362.

Though no burial marker remains, it is likely that Sir Roger Bigod was buried in All Saints churchyard in Settrington.
