She was the daughter of Rev. Charles Adolphus Boardman and Sophia Hine of New Milford, Connecticut. She married Samuel Baxter McEwen of Youngstown, Ohio in that town on May 13, 1841. Her father officiated. They had 4 children; a son died in infancy. The family moved to Wisconsin in about 1850 and were farmers. She and her husband moved to Lincoln in 1882 to be nearer their daughter Harriet and her husband Dr. Frederick Righter.
