Ruby Viola Johnson was born on March 3, 1918, to Ray and Myrtle (Freeburg) Johnson on a farm southwest of Doland, SD. At the age of eight months Ruby's mother was stricken and died of the flu epidemic of November 1918. Her father remarried and Ruby was raised along with a growing number of siblings, by her father's new wife Mary-Naomi. Ruby attended country school southeast of Doland and then Doland High School. She attended Northern Normal College in Aberdeen, receiving a Teachers Certificate. She taught in several country schools over the next number of years.

She was united in marriage to Herman Eierman on June 19th, 1942, at Raymond, SD. One son was born to this union. Ruby continued to teach at a country school. After leaving the teaching career she became a house wife and concentrated instead on teaching piano, organ and guitar. She taught music for over a half a century, stopping this profession only after her health and hearing started to fail. In fall of 2005, she moved to Redfield, SD and took up co-residence with her sister, Ruth. Upon Ruth's passing in early 2009, she lived alone until having to move into the Golden Living Center in April 2010, because of an ever increasing decline in overall health.

Ruby was preceded in death by her parents, her husband in January 1989; three brothers and two sisters.

She is survived by: one son, Craig of Brandon, SD; three grandchildren: Wade of Cheney, WA, C.C. (Kay) of Norfolk, NB and Carrie(Bill) of Norfolk, NB; and five great grandchildren; plus many nieces and nephews. Also surviving are sisters: Mavis Wolner of Redfield, SD and Margaret Ashmore of Forest Hill, LA.

The family wishes that any memorials be directed to the Redeemer Lutheran Church of Doland, SD where she was church pianist-organist for several decades (findagrave.com)
