Mr. Verdun "Granddaddy" Arrowood, of Johnson City, died Saturday, August 11, 2012, at Asbury Place.
He was raised in Virginia and moved to Johnson City in 1946. Staff Sergeant Arrowood was a member of the 8th Air Force serving in the European Theater during WWII. He was later employed as a service manager at Summers Hardware and Supply Company for 33 years. He was a member of Munsey Memorial United Methodist Church for 66 years serving on the Administrative Board , teaching Disciple Bible Studies, Sunday School and was a member of the Fellowship Sunday School class. He was Scoutmaster for Boy Scout Troop 47 at Munsey for over 20 years and received the Silver Beaver award, Scouting's highest honor.
Survivors include: his wife Mary Ann Arrowood of the home; son Danny Jack "Jackie" White of Chattanooga; Daughter Joyce " Jo" Donahue of Cary, NC; Son-in-law Mike Donahue of Cary, NC; Daughter Clare Ellen Snow of St. George, UT; Granddaughter Shawn Maden; six grandsons Joshua Maden, Joseph L. White, Richard V. Tester, Scott E. Tester, Robbie Davis and Phillip Davis; nine great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Emanuel and Ellen Davis Arrowood; also his first wife, Iris Fay Webb Arrowood, five brothers and three sisters; a daughter, Virginia Lee Maden.
A funeral service is scheduled for Tuesday, August 14, 2012 at 7:00 pm at Munsey Memorial United Methodist Church, under the direction of Rev. Michael Lester and Doug Grove DeJarnett. The family will receive friends from 5:00 pm until time of service at 7:00 pm.
A committal service will be conducted on Wednesday, August 15, 2012 at 10:00 am in the Monte Vista Memorial Park. Family and friends are asked to assemble at the cemetery. Pall Bearers will be grandsons and nephews.
